Gluten Free Restaurants in Israel

The emergence of gluten-free dining venues and food festivals in Israel has given chefs and food artisans who specialize in gluten-free cuisine a stage on which to display their skills. There are many of gluten-free eating options to choose from in Israel, ranging from fancy cafés and restaurants to food trucks and street food vendors. These restaurants provide a wider range of customers in search of satisfying and healthy substitutes for conventional cuisine, in addition to those with gluten-related diseases.

Gluten Free Restaurants Categories

This page will continue to grow. As I find new restaurants or go to restaurants that people recommend I will continue to add to the page.

I want to stress that I am not certifying any of the businesses on this site as gluten free. It is your job as the consumer to ask questions and to verify that the restaurant is safe for you and your family. People are all different. My family can eat food prepared in a not certified gluten free kitchen while others can not.

To ensure that people with gluten sensitivity or Celiac disease have a safe and enjoyable eating experience, it is important to be vigilant and mindful of cross-contamination when dining out. Ask questions without fear, and if you’re not satisfied with the response find another establishment.

To make navigating the page easier the page is divided into the following sections.

Many restaurants offer gluten free options but do not have gluten free kitchens

Many restaurants in Israel offer gluten free options though most restaurants will inform you that their kitchen is not a sterile environment and their offerings may be cross contaminated. Pizza and burgers are easy to find as many of the chains have a gluten free option. There is even a pasta chains that offers  gluten free option that you can mix with their various sauces and toppings.

There are many falafel options too but be sure to inquire if the falafels are gluten free. You just won’t be able to eat your falafel on a pita but you can enjoy eating falafels with chumus and chips (also known as French fries in the United States). Lastly, no Israel breakfast is complete without shakshuka, many restaurants offer a gluten free roll in place of the bread basket but note some restaurants charge extra for the gluten free roll.

Please be sure to ask questions as everyone is different. The precautions people take vary too. So please check with the restaurant before you order to safeguard your health.

We live outside of Jerusalem in the Judean Hills. As such many of my recommendations are primarily based in those locations but in addition to my favorite restaurants I am also including other restaurants that are known to have gluten free options. Some have been that have been recommended to me by family and friends.

I am not a food critic. I consider myself to be a customer service expert. When we go to a restaurant the attentiveness of the wait staff is important to me. The willingness of the staff and the restaurant in general to meet our dietary restrictions when it comes to gluten free options plays a large part if we return.

Several years ago my wife and I wanted to go out for a date night. She had heard of a restaurant, so I gave them a call to see if they had gluten-free options, including dessert. I was told that they did. I made a reservation and when we got to the establishment there was one gluten free option on the menu and no gluten free desserts. We ended up eating there. My food was good, but my wife’s was only OK. Regardless of the quality of food the overall experience left much to be desired.

I am not going to pan a restaurant if the experience was negative; rather, I am not going to write about it. This site will only feature restaurants, bakeries and items found in grocery stores that I like.

In the business world there is a saying, that people do business with people they know like, and trust. This site will follow the same idea. I am only going to feature businesses and brands that I know like, and trust but as a service I will post information to other establishments as well.

Below are the restaurants that my family have enjoyed going to.

Please always ask questions and to verify that the restaurant is safe for you and your family.

Bleecker Bakery

According to Google, there are approximately 25 Bleecker Bakery locations in Israel. That being said, we have only been to the one in Bet Shemesh.

Like many restaurants, they tell you that their kitchen is not certified gluten-free and that items may be cross-contaminated. They offer gluten-free bread for their sandwiches and two types of gluten-free ravioli.
My daughter loves their fries and milkshakes, and on the healthier side, their shakshuka is very good too.

The waitress was very careful to warn that the kitchen is not gluten-free and items may be cross-contaminated.

That being said, they offer gluten-free pasta on the menu and clearly identify which selections are gluten-free.

They always have one or two gluten free dessert options.

Restaurants with Gluten Free options in Jerusalem

Below are the restaurants that my family have enjoyed going to.

Please always ask questions and to verify that the restaurant is safe for you and your family.

Babado

My nephew who has Celiac disease came to Israel for a visit. My wife and I heard about the restaurant and told him about it. We suggested that he try it. He has been there twice in the last week.

Babado is located on Beit Lechem in a store front. My wife had a shawarma plate which I tried and I had the corned beef. Both meats were delicious. Each meal came with a generous amount of freshly made Israeli salads. The owner was friendly and the staff was polite. I asked for seconds on the marinated eggplant and the staff graciously gave me a second helping. The eggplant was marinated with lemon and was really good.

Though the restaurant is not gluten free they were more than accommodating to my wife and my nephew. The was happy to show that he used olive oil as we have soy oil intolerances.

If I lived across the street from Babado I would definitely be a frequent visitor.

Bagel Cafe

Bagel cafe is a chain that is a coffee shop. They used to have a more extensive menu. Currently the menu is not a extensive but they have gluten free bagels. Obviously if you are a celiac I would be extra careful here.

My family and I love lox. We all agree that there lox is some of the best that we have had. Quite often we go there to simply buy a bag of gluten free bagels, a regular bagel for me and lox for the house it is that good.

As a side my daughter is a big fan of their coffee drinks.

Burger Bar

Burger bar offers hamburgers,  grilled chicken and portabella mushrooms on gluten free buns. They also offer salads.

We frequent the franchise on our Yeshuv but we have unfortunately had reasons to be at the local hospitals and have eaten there too.

The food is fresh and made to order. It is not gourmet  but if you are hungry you will enjoy there burgers.

Casa Lavi

Located in the heart of Jerusalem is a coffee and sandwich shop.

My wife and daughter recently visited the restaurant for breakfast.

Not only did the server explain to them the difference between the different kinds of coffee there were a variety of options on the menu they could choose from that offered gluten-free bread.  They each had avocado toast with eggs prepared differently.

The restaurant also offered gluten-free desserts.

Dolphin Yam

Several months ago, when my Father-in-law was visiting, he took my daughter to Dolphin Yam. This was exciting to me. Why? The restaurant, which has been open for years, is now certified Kosher.
Last week, my wife and I were in Jerusalem for a meeting, so we tried it out.
As the name suggests, it is a seafood restaurant, and they offer beef and lamb dishes as well. The restaurant is not gluten free, but the staff was able to tell us which dishes did not contain gluten.
The food has a Mediterranean flair and mixes flavors in a way that I would never try in my kitchen.

The restaurant’s atmosphere is pleasant, but it is on the more expensive side, with main dishes starting at 86 NIS, with the most expensive dish at 162 NIS. On the dessert menu, they had a gluten free chocolate cake.

If you are looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate a special occasion or have a nice night out, you should try Dolphin Yam.

Itta

My wife and I went there for breakfast. The restaurant is located in the Ein Karem neighborhood of Jerusalem.  My wife had shaksuka and I had the Israel breakfast. Her shakshuka was available with gluten free bread that she said was good. I had the Israeli breakfast that had the best omelette that I ever had. It did not need any salt or pepper and was deliciously flavored with herbs.  We also shared a delicious gluten free slice of chocolate cake.

The restaurant also has a shop that has a social and economic project and provides a platform for the presentation of products produced in the workshop by the women and men of the association.

Fiori

My family enjoys going to Fiori. Conveniently located in Jerusalem First Station. It is easy to get to and has ample paid parking.

They offer gluten free pasta the you are able to choose your sauce and toppings to the pasta. Additionally we enjoy the eggplant parmesan as an appetizer.  They take credit cards but you can’t put the tip on the card.

Greg Café in Cinema City.

The first thing I have to say is this: the service was excellent. Beyond just having gluten friendly options, the waitstaff and especially our waitress were outstanding. She answered all of our dietary questions clearly and responsibly and made sure we understood that the kitchen does have cross-contamination. That transparency matters, and I appreciated it enough to leave a Google review.

There were plenty of gluten-friendly options on the menu. Obviously, if you have celiac disease, you need to do your own due diligence. Greg does offer gluten free bread as an option, and several dishes can be ordered without bread or modified to include gluten free bread.

Greg’s website says they have over 100 locations across the country.

Ichikidana Indian cuisine

Ichikidana is a  restaurant that offers Indian cuisine. The restaurant is not gluten free but the staff knows which items do not have gluten. My family went there for dinner last night and the owner explained what was in each of the dishes and which were gluten free.

One of the items that we ordered was a vegetable tempura appetizer. The tempura was made with rice flour and was delicious.  My daughter ordered the lentil dish which comes with a tortilla-type bread that is not gluten free but the owner substituted a gluten free rice option for no additional charge.

The restaurant is conveniently located in the Jerusalem near Kikar Hamusica .

Kazze

Kazze is a gluten free restaurant. In addition to being a restaurant they do catering. They catered my daughters Bat Mitzvah and the food was delicious.

We have ordered in for holidays and the food is always fresh and tasty. If you did not know it you would not know that you were eating a gluten free pizza. My kids and wife really like the desserts that they offer.

The restaurant is conveniently located in the Jerusalem  Rechavia area.

Kinor Bakikar

Kinor Bakikar Restaurant in Kikar Hamusica. Taking words from their website …. “is an elegant, kosher chef’s restaurant, under Badatz Beit Yossef supervision. The restaurant places an emphasis on meat dishes and also serves fish, seasonal salads and breads baked especially for you.”

My wife has been their several times with friends who come to Israel on vacation. She always relays how enjoyable of an experience it was and that she was able to find options that were gluten free.

Muffin Boutique

I discovered them when I had a gluten free brownie bite at a conference. Someone next to me even said, “These are the best chocolate muffins I’ve ever had, with or without gluten,” and honestly… I agree.

Curious to explore more, I reached out to ask what additional gluten free items were available. They offer an entire lineup of gluten-free quiches, including mushroom, sweet potato, broccoli, tomato-basil, cauliflower, pepper-goat cheese, and onion. (Important note: gluten-free quiches must be ordered in advance.)

During our visit, the staff also pointed out their gluten-free fritters — baked, not fried — made with carrots and zucchini and fully dairy. Naturally, we tasted a few, and they were very good. The shop also offers gluten-free salads, shakes.

The restaurant is handicapped accessible, and they plenty of parking

Between the friendly service and creative menu options, Muffin Boutique is absolutely a place I’ll return to again.

Mojos

Mojos is a meat restaurant located in the center of Jerusalem. It is not a gluten-free restaurant, but they offer gluten-free items. Before I talk about the food, I have to say that their staff is very friendly and super helpful, as they were happy to answer all the questions we had and gave great recommendations.

They offer gluten-free pizzas, and the crust is very good. What makes these pizzas unique is that you can get a kosher pepperoni pizza with cashew cheese. My wife had the BBQ pizza, and I liked it too.

The restaurant is handicapped accessible, and they offer vegan options too, not that we tried those.

I will undoubtedly return to this location in the future.

Nodi

Nodi is my favorite restaurant to go to for breakfast. I love the outdoor seating and they have great coffee. My mother still talks about it from her visit over two years ago.

The restaurant offers gluten free bread to go with their Israeli breakfast and they have a varied of Shaksukas and toasts. Toasts are the Israeli version of a gourmet grilled cheese.  My daughter really likes their gluten free pesto, tomato and mozzarella cheese. She says it always perfectly cooked.

It is walking distance from the Museum of Tolerance and Rechov Yaffo.

Or Delicacy

Or Delicacy is located on the second floor of Kanyon HaAchim. The menus are all in Hebrew, but Google Translate can help with that. Although they do not offer gluten-free bread, they have a nice variety of salads to choose from. They usually have a daily special, which sometimes includes baked salmon. How many coffee shops offer that?

The food is always fresh, and the staff is very helpful in letting you know what ingredients are in the food. Whether you’re looking for a cup of coffee or want to support a small business with a nice selection of gluten free salads as well as other items that don’t contain gluten, you should give this cafe a try.

I do not know how my wife found this cute little restaurant. It is tucked away between the Katamon and Katamonim and neighborhoods.

It was the first time that I ever had a kada which they offer both as a gluten-ful and gluten free option.

The cafe has a gift shop attached that sells plants, planters. gifts as well as some of the spreads made at restaurant. We took some of the pesto home. It was as good at home as it was there.

Prohibition Pickle recently moved to a new location in Efrat and continues to be a favorite stop for herring, cold cuts, and classic deli flavors. On our recent visit, Chaim — the owner  is  extremely helpful in pointing out which items are gluten-free and which may contain soy oil, which is especially useful for anyone managing sensitivities.

Although they are not a full restaurant, they occasionally host pop-up dining nights. These events feature rotating menus, so offerings may change each time. When we visited their pop-up, the addition of gluten-free bread made the experience accessible and enjoyable.

Important:
Pop-ups do not run weekly, and hours vary. Always check their Facebook page and the Secret Gush Etzion group for the latest announcements to avoid arriving when they’re closed.

Whether you’re stopping by for Shabbat take-home items or planning to catch their next pop-up, Prohibition Pickle is worth a visit.

Yael’s Soups is more than just a soup delivery service. Based in the Gush Etzion region, they deliver a diverse selection of soups, including fresh and frozen varieties, along with spreads,  fresh salads and spelt sourdough bread.  (please note the spelt bread is not  certified gluten free but some people who are gluten intolerant and are not celiac are able to eat it), every Tuesday throughout the greater Jerusalem area.

In addition to their regular menu, they provide thoughtful gift packages with soup tailored for get-well wishes, birthdays, condolences, and holidays. While not all soups are gluten-free, they are happy to advise on which options are suitable.

We have a tradition in our family to have pasta on Thursdays and Yael’s Soups on Tuesdays. Recently, I had her Autumn Harvest, and I think it might be my new favorite. As her soups are made fresh, not all soups are always available.

Restaurants with Gluten Free options in  Hadera

We originally came to Hadera for a simple beach day and were pleasantly surprised to discover the Mall HaHof Village right by the water. All of the restaurants in the complex have kosher certification, which makes it an easy and stress-free option for families. On that first visit, we only had time to try two spots—clearly not enough to do the mall justice.

A few months later, we returned to Hadera for a Chanukah vacation. While we didn’t make it back to any new restaurants inside the mall this time, we did discover a few other great places nearby that are absolutely worth trying—and gave us even more reason to plan another visit.

The Biga restaurant at Moll HaHof Village in Hadera offers an impressive selection of gluten-free options — they even have a dedicated gluten-free section right on the menu. The menu is displayed on a tablet, making it easy to browse in both English and Hebrew.

From the start, the staff were careful to let us know that the kitchen is not 100% gluten-free and that there is a risk of cross-contamination. Still, our waiter was friendly, attentive, and did his best to help us choose dishes that would work for our needs.

In addition to gluten-free choices, Biga also caters to vegans, with a wide range of plant-based options. The restaurant serves everything from breakfasts and salads to pastas, fish dishes, and more — and yes, they even let us order breakfast for dinner, which not every place will do!

To top it off, the menu also includes a tempting selection of gluten-free desserts, which was a sweet way to end the meal.

Brisket

When I told two different people we were heading to Hadera, both independently told me the same thing: you have to try Brisket. So, of course, we did.

While they don’t offer gluten free bread, the staff is upfront that the restaurant is not gluten free and that cross contamination is possible. That said, if you love smoked meat, there are plenty of naturally gluten free options to enjoy.

They also served an incredible gluten-free soup, which absolutely hit the spot on a chilly day. And to top it all off, they even offered a gluten free dessert,  the perfect way to finish the meal.

Fat Vinny

Fat Vinny, located at Moll HaHof Village in Hadera, is a lively Italian restaurant offering a nice selection of gluten-free pizza and pasta. The menu clearly marks dishes that are gluten-free, spicy , or vegan / vegan-friendly.

Like most restaurants, they do note that the kitchen is not 100% gluten-free, so there is a risk of cross-contamination.

I was especially excited to see gnocchi listed on the menu and thought it might be gluten-free — but after double-checking, it turned out it wasn’t. A good reminder to always confirm with the staff before ordering, even when something looks safe on the menu.

My wife and I both enjoyed our pasta dishes, and we ended the meal by sharing a rich gluten-free chocolate dessert. It was absolutely delicious — and worth every calorie!

Portuguese

I once had a coworker who told me, “If you want to know the best restaurants, ask a cab driver.”
So when my daughter were on a tiyul in Hadera, we took that advice and asked our driver for a recommendation. Without hesitation, he said Portuguese was a must-try.

Technically, the restaurant isn’t in Hadera itself it’s in Bat Hen, about a 10-15 minute drive away but it was absolutely worth the short trip.

The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very upfront about their gluten situation. They explained that they do not offer gluten free bread and that the kitchen is cross-contaminated, so sandwiches were not an option for us.

That said, there were still excellent gluten-free choices. We ordered a large platter of mixed smoked meats for the table, served with cabbage salad, roasted vegetables, and Bora Bora rice, which was outstanding. They also offer French fries, which are cross-contaminated; this was fine for our family since we are gluten intolerant rather than celiac.

To end the meal on a high note, there were two gluten free desserts available—always a welcome surprise.

If I lived in the area, this would easily be my go to spot for a birthday dinner or a guys’ night out. One final tip: the place gets busy, so I highly recommend making a reservation.

Restaurants with Gluten Free options in  the Lakhish region

Ela Cafe

Was recommended to me by a mom on our Yeshuv. Her child has Celiac Disease and unlike my children who are only gluten intolerant has to be very careful and does not go to many restaurants.

The mom told me that Ela Cafe located at the entrance of Kibbutz Beit Govrin.  A quote taken from their website by Adi one of the owners:

I have celiac disease, and that’s why I rarely eat out,” “This difficulty is familiar to me, and that’s why I created an entire gluten-free menu.

If  you are ever near the Kibbutz be sure to try it out.

Slo & Bro

Is a smokehouse in Ra’anana.  My wife and I were in Ra’anana the other day and I had heard about the restaurant but did not know if they offered gluten  free options, so we called to ask and the staff was very accommodating and said that they did.

When we arrived we were told all the smoked meats and salads were gluten-free but the kitchen was not.  As I looked at the menu I noticed under the desserts that they offered a Gluten Free Crème Brule.

The meal was delicious and for research purposes, I ordered the Crème Brule which was also delicious.

The staff was courteous and helpful. The service was excellent, even with the lunch business crowd being served.

We do not get to Ra’anana often but if we did it would be on our list of places to go.

Mojosan

A couple of years ago, I read a review in The Jerusalem Post about a restaurant called Mojosan in Netanya. So, during a recent trip up north, we decided to check it out for ourselves.

Mojosan is an Asian-fusion concept located at the Piano Mall in Netanya. It’s a self-service style restaurant — you choose your meal from a large  English (they have English menu at the entrance, place your order, and then your food is brought to your table. The setup is modern, efficient, and perfect for casual dining.

They offer a nice variety of dishes, including sushi rolls and Poke bowls. While the staff was quick to note that the kitchen is not completely gluten-free (there is cross-contamination), they took the time to listen carefully to our allergies and made a genuine effort to accommodate us.

The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and attentive, and overall, we had an enjoyable meal.

If you’re in Netanya and looking for an Asian-style restaurant with gluten-friendly options, Mojosan is definitely worth checking out.

Air Caffe

Air Caffe is technically not in Tel Aviv but rather in Airport City near Ben Gurion Airport.

The service at the restaurant is excellent. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful, answering all of our questions. My wife had a breakfast that, instead of gluten-free bread, came with a packaged gluten-free roll. The menu says that they offer gluten-free pizza. I asked the waitress what other gluten-free options they offered, and she told me they substitute rice noodles to make gluten-free pasta, and you can get a toast with gluten-free bread.

If you are near the airport and need a restaurant offering gluten-free options, try them out.
